What is the difference between the Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL) and 988?

988 serves as the national number for suicide prevention and crisis and enable individuals nationwide to access support and resources when they are experiencing a crisis. In Georgia, anyone experiencing a suicidal crisis or emotional distress can call the Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL) at 1-800-715-4225. GCAL also answers calls from 988 for numbers with a Georgia area code. GCAL is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (24/7/365), and serves as the hub for all Georgia crisis services. For behavioral health professionals and first responders, a more detailed overview of the subtle differences can be found here
