We are pleased to present our most recent survey report, an in-depth analysis conducted jointly with Lexicon Strategies and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) on the awareness level of 988 within a survey sample of individuals in Georgia.

This report delves into the current level of awareness and usage confidence surrounding the critical 988 dialing code across Georgia. The findings drawn from this study will be instrumental in guiding our future strategies and initiatives.

Executive Summary

This report details the methodology and results of a survey conducted in July 2024 by Lexicon Strategies in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and presents the findings. The survey assessed the awareness of Georgia residents regarding the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline dialing code and related services following marketing efforts launched in late November 2023.

Conducted from July 10 to July 15, 2024, this survey engaged 712 participants from diverse regions across Georgia, with an overall margin of error of ±4% at a 95% confidence level. The survey aimed to capture a wide range of demographic groups and priority populations and was available in both English and Spanish.

NAMI Key Findings

The NAMI survey highlights key findings on the public's awareness and perceptions of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Familiarity with the lifeline remains stable since October 2023, with 67% of respondents aware of the service and 23% somewhat familiar with it. The most valued aspects of the service include immediate access to a crisis counselor (51%), the presence of healthcare professionals (27%), and not receiving a bill (23%). Usage is reported by 3% of Americans, with Black, Hispanic, and AAPI individuals more likely than white Americans to have used the service. Satisfaction has improved, with 68% of users reporting they received the help they needed, a 13-point increase from June 2023. Trust in the lifeline is high, with 82% believing they would receive the necessary support and 72% expressing comfort in using the service during a crisis. However, younger Americans (18-29) are less likely than those aged 50+ to seek professional support, and 51% of the population is uncertain about when a situation warrants contacting the lifeline.

In Georgia

The July 2024 survey results indicate that awareness of the "Suicide & Crisis Lifeline" in Georgia stands at 84.7%, with 40.3% correctly identifying the lifeline dialing code. These figures represent a significant increase in brand awareness compared to previous measures focused solely on the dialing code.
